Summary of expert reviews

“For anyone looking to change their pet over to fresh food, and who wants to be confident that it is the right decision, Spot & Tango is one of the best ways to go,” enthusiastically summarized ConsumerVoice.org.

Spot & Tango offers two types of dog food: their dry line known as the Unkibble and their wet fresh line.

Similar to other fresh food dog subscriptions they have a personalized sign-up process catered to the breed, size, and other factors of your dog. “Once you finish the questionnaire, you have the option of choosing either Fresh meals or their UnKibble — each offers 3 different recipes. Then, you can order one, two or all three of the recipes, but keep in mind that each recipe is a different price,” described Sally Jones of Canine Journal

The ingredients were highly regarded by all of the experts. “Spot & Tango food contains no fillers, additives, or preservatives, so it arrives frozen. Store the food pouches in your freezer until you’re ready to use them. Take a pouch out the night before feeding and place it in the fridge, or thaw a pouch in warm water or in the microwave,” Jackie Brown of Insider praised. In addition to their fresh option, their dry Unkibble product, “…is a dehydrated fresh ingredient type dog food. Unlike other kibbles, Spot and Tango’s Unkibble contains starches, proteins, fresh vegetables, and fruits blended processed at low temperatures for dehydration.” noted DogEndorsed

And if you like to treat your dog to some snacks throughout the day, “Finally, there’s an option to add healthy, single-ingredient treats to your subscription. As with the dog food, the treats are hormone and GMO-free, and they make for a great snack in between meals. We really like the snack option because store-bought dog treats are notoriously full of weird additives and chemical preservatives, but not these,” emphasized DogEndorsed.

While the convenience and healthiness of the meals were universally praised, the cost was noted as higher than other options depending on the size of the dog. ConsumerVoice.org ran the numbers, “If you have a dog who is 5lbs or under, then you can expect to pay around $10 per week, or $20 per order. Moving up in size, if your dog is closer to the 20lb mark, then you will likely pay $25 per week, or $50 per order. Medium sized breeds who sit around the 50lb weight class are looking at approximately $70 per week, or $140 per order, and finally, large breeds who are over 70lbs, but under 100lbs, will likely pay about $90 per week, or $180 per order.”

Overall, Spot & Tango was recommended across the board for those who aren’t trying to optimize for cost but rather health and convenience.

“Just bear in mind that building a healthy system for your pet may be costly, but it is a wise investment. Having a sick dog is much more expensive than any of the meal plans of Spot & Tango combined.”

“Overall, most customers seem pleased with Spot and Tango. It is a great dog food brand for puppies and adult dogs who don’t have medical or dietary needs, but you should be a little more cautious if your pup needs a little extra care.”

“What’s more important is the quality of the ingredients and customizing the diet to your dog’s individual calorie requirements. If fresh dog food is in your budget, we recommend considering this brand.”

“There’s no question — dog food of this caliber is far from cheap. However, if you are a believer in the health benefits of fresh, unprocessed food, but don’t have the time or energy to make your own dog food at home, a fresh pet food subscription service may be worth the high price tag. And Spot & Tango does not skimp on anything.”

“While more expensive than commercial dog food, the convenience and health benefits of their food should outweigh that downside.”
